About

We make state-by-state LLC formation actually understandable.

LLC State Guide is an independent reference for U.S. small business owners forming a Limited Liability Company. We don’t sell formation services. We don’t bury fees. We don’t use the same template across all 50 states and call it “research.”

What we do

Every guide is built on the actual filing form, the actual Secretary of State portal, and the actual fee schedule for that state — not a generic outline. We update each state’s page when filing fees change, when annual report rules shift (Pennsylvania in 2025 and Iowa’s flat tax in 2025 are recent examples), or when a state launches a new online portal.

How we make money

Two ways:

  1. Display advertising. We run Google AdSense ads on most pages. They’re labeled “Advertisement” or “Sponsored” and they’re never blended into our editorial content.
  2. Affiliate commissions. When you sign up for an LLC formation service we recommend (currently Northwest Registered Agent), we may earn a commission. It costs you nothing extra. We only recommend services we’d use ourselves.

These two revenue streams let us keep every guide free and keep updating them without a paywall.

What we are not

We are not a law firm, accounting firm, or registered agent service. The guides are written carefully and updated regularly — but state filing rules change, and your situation is unique. For tax planning, multi-state structuring, or anything that feels complex, work with a CPA or a business attorney licensed in your state.
